Just trying to keep up with everything that needed your attention.

You keep going because that's what you do.

You handle what needs to be handled.

You get through the day.

And for a while, maybe that works.

Until one day you realize you're tired in a way that a good night's sleep doesn't seem to fix.

I remember feeling like my entire life revolved around responding to what everyone else needed.

There wasn't much space left for me.

Or for painting.

The thing that finally pushed me over the edge wasn't some huge dramatic moment.

It was honestly something seemingly small on the outside, but on the inside it was my final straw.

A meeting at work.

A new rule.

Being told how I was allowed to show up.

I remember sitting there thinking,

"I can't keep doing this."

So I left.

Not long after, I moved back home to help care for my mom.

My days looked very different after that.

Part of my time was spent helping her navigate recovery.

The rest was spent slowly finding my way back to painting.

I wish I could say I immediately felt confident about it.

I didn't.

Most days I was questioning myself.

Wondering if I should be doing something more practical.

Wondering if I'd made a mistake.

Wondering if I could really make a life doing what I loved.

But I kept painting.

Looking back, I can see that season taught me a lot about devotion.

Not devotion as an idea.

But devotion to the people I loved.

Devotion to continuing to paint, even when I wasn't sure where it would lead.

And after a while, I started noticing things.

I wasn't carrying the same knot in my stomach all the time.

My mind felt quieter.

I wasn't rushing quite as much.

For the first time in years, I felt like I had room to breathe.

There was a stillness there that I hadn't experienced in a very long time.

And little by little, I found myself returning to parts of myself I thought I'd lost.

The creative part.

The hopeful part.

The part of me that felt most alive with a paintbrush in my hand.

And somewhere along the way, something began to awaken.

Not all at once.
Not loudly.

But gently… like remembering something that had always been there...

like remembering who I was underneath all the pressure.

These paintings that came out of that season weren't created because I had everything figured out.

They were created while still finding my way.

They became a place for me to put everything I was feeling.

A place to slow down.

A place to hear myself again.

Over time, I started realizing something.

Peace wasn't showing up because my life had become perfect.

It was showing up because I was making space for it.

That's what these paintings remind me of.

Not that life is always easy.

Not that everything magically works out.

Just that peace is always something we can return to.

And maybe that's something you've been longing for, too.

Not perfection.

Not certainty.

Just a little more space to breathe.

A little more softness.

A little more peace.
